Alpha channeling in a rotating plasma.
The wave-particle alpha-channeling effect is generalized to include rotating plasma. Specifically, radio frequency waves can resonate with alpha particles in a mirror machine with ExB rotation to diffuse the alpha particles along constrained paths in phase space. Of major interest is that the alpha-particle energy, in addition to amplifying the rf waves, can directly enhance the rotation energy...
متن کاملApplying Support Vector Machines to Imbalanced Datasets
Support Vector Machines (SVM) have been extensively studied and have shown remarkable success in many applications. However the success of SVM is very limited when it is applied to the problem of learning from imbalanced datasets in which negative instances heavily outnumber the positive instances (e.g. in gene profiling and detecting credit card fraud). This paper discusses the factors behind ...
متن کاملStudying and Applying Channeling at Extremely High Bunch Charges
The potentially high plasma densities possible in solids might produce extremely high acceleration gradients. However solid-state plasmas could pose daunting challenges. Crystal channeling has been suggested as a mechanism to ameliorate these problems. A high-density plasma in a crystal lattice could quench the channeling process. There is no experimental or theoretical guidance on channeling f...

متن کاملAlpha-channeling simulation experiment in the DIII-D tokamak.
Alfvén instabilities can reduce the central magnetic shear via redistribution of energetic ions. They can sustain a steady state internal transport barrier as demonstrated in this DIII-D tokamak experiment. Improvement in burning plasma performance based on this mechanism is discussed.
